Most enterprises report that less than 50% of their storage capacity is utilized and fewer than 20% of files have been accessed recently. But, which file servers are underutilized? Which files have not been used lately? With hundreds of file servers from many vendors—with different management interfaces—there is no one place for IT administrators to go to monitor, configure and receive alerts, identify potential problems, and analyze how file services may be improved.
Centralize Monitoring, Alerts, Reporting, and Scripting
The Maestro File Manager provides system administrators a single pane of glass where files and file storage statistics can be analyzed and reported across multi-vendor resources. With centralized monitoring, scripting, and reporting, systems administrators can maximize use of costly storage resources, simplify the management of unstructured data, and mitigate potential problems that might impact users.
Monitoring. Maestro centralizes monitoring of critical availability, performance, capacity, and usage data. Using one powerful interface, systems administrators gain a rich set of information about all file access patterns across their storage environment.
Alerts. Maestro provides alerts based on administrator-defined thresholds for metrics such as volume capacity, CPU utilization, throughput, and availability. The thresholds can be defined across all shares and/or file servers from a single point. Using these custom alerts, Maestro can notify administrators so they can respond to potential problems before they occur, such as:
- interrupted user access to a file share
- a hard drive failure
- a filer under heavy load or underutilized
- a share volume that requires additional capacity
Reporting. Maestro allows administrators to export log information in XML format, enabling the use of familiar charting and analysis tools such as Excel to analyze trends and provide reports—across all file resources.
Scripting. Maestro enables administrators to define policies based on usage and capacity statistics to automatically take the appropriate action, such as rebalancing the load on over-or-underutilized filers, or adding capacity to a Volume Set when needed.
CIFS Support. Maestro fully supports the Common Internet File System (CIFS) format, the file sharing protocol used by Microsoft Windows.
Maestro Symphony Reporting
To make it easy for companies to start realizing the benefits of Maestro, Attune Systems and its partners offers a professional service for customers who first want to learn about their file system before implementing Maestro’s more sophisticated and powerful virtualization capabilities. By temporarily and non-disruptively deploying the Maestro File Manager, enterprises can use it to audit, assess, and monitor their file server and file system environment.
Using Maestro Symphony Reporting, companies are able to:
- Discover and measure file system trends
- Discover and measure server performance trends
- Plan for file system performance improvements
- Identify the financial gains from storage tiering, de-duping, storage consolidation, and policy management
- Search for and report on unauthorized files stored on the network file system
- Monitor storage growth trends
- Understand potential storage savings resulting from file virtualization and consolidation of duplicate files
- Test the benefits of file system aggregation and storage tiering.
Attune Systems’ Maestro Symphony Reporting offers your company substantial gains without any risks. Maestro is easily added to your existing IP network without requiring software agents, VLAN reconfiguration, risk cut-over deployment, or changes to your authentication processes. With a Maestro Symphony report in hand, you can quickly gain knowledge of your file system environment that you will help you develop plans to enhance your system performance, storage utilization, flexibility, and service levels—and, maximize the return on your existing storage investments.
